Adjunct faculty members do not earn paid leave and are expected to be at each class meeting per their approved work schedules. Absences during the term of employment should only occur in case of an emergency or illness. Excessive or unreported absences will be reported to the President.
Should an adjunct instructor have reason to be absent from class due to an emergency or illness, the following procedures are to be followed:
- Alert the appropriate Dean or Program Director regarding the need for an absence. This notification should include the reason for absence and an explanation of assignments made to students to complete during the absence. Academic Adjunct Instructors should contact the Associate Dean of Instruction or the Dean of Instruction. Workforce Development and Skills Training Adjunct Instructors should contact the Dean of Workforce Development and Skills Training or the Program Director. Adjunct Instructors in Healthcare Programs should contact the Dean of Healthcare Programs or the appropriate Program Director.
- Instructors should notify all students of absences and/or changes to the class schedule and provide instructions for assignments. Notifications should be made using the institution's LMS (Canvas), email, and/or other college approved messaging system.
- Healthcare Program Adjunct Instructors Only: Due to accreditation standards and clinical-hour requirements, any missed class, lab, or clinical time in Healthcare Programs must be made up. The make-up plan must be submitted to and approved by the Dean of Healthcare Programs or the Division Director and must ensure that all required instructional, lab, or clinical objectives are met. Scheduling of make-up time must be coordinated to minimize disruption to students while maintaining program compliance.
